We typically model wall and roof penetrations as guides with clearance gaps of approximately 0.5 to 1.5 inches in all directions. These modeled clearances are then used to verify load transfer and confirm that the gaps are adequate at each penetration location.
We also use a distinct symbol in our isometrics to identify these penetrations—for example, a ring with a diameter larger than the pipe, rather than the standard four-arrow guide symbol. Introducing a dedicated support type and symbol will allow these locations to be easily identified in the drawings as well as in the DGN and DXF model exports to Navisworks.
Are you looking for this symbol in AutoPIPE or OPIM?
May be we could provide an option to identify a guide as a penetration so it is treated differently
